47th St (Fifth to Sixth)

Most of the diamonds on the American market were cut, set, bought or sold by the trade in the small rooms and booths that occupy the buildings lining this midtown block. The public can also buy and sell diamond jewelry here.

Fifth Avenue (49th to 59th)

It's home to Tiffany's, Saks, Bergdorf Goodman, and other pillars of fashion.

Greenwich Village

8th St (6th Avenue to Broadway)

The shops typically have an offbeat personality. You'll find even more of them in the surrounding streets.

Madison Avenue (57th to 72nd)

New York's most luxurious shopping street is lined with high-fashion boutiques and other specialty stores.

Second Ave (55 to 56)

A large assembly of quality antique dealers under one roof.

Fulton at the East River

The ship-and-exhibit South Street Seaport Museum attracted many stores geared for the tourist trade.

St. Mark's Place

9th Street (Third Ave to Avenue A)

Once a New York Bohemian haunt. Now, more fashionable stores have taken root.

Time Warner Center

10 Columbus Circle

Contains a selection of upscale shops and restaurants - and a giant Whole Foods market in the basement.

Trump Tower

Fifth Avenue (56th-57th)

Luxury stores occupy the eye-popping atrium of this 68-story modern skyscraper.

Union Square

Broadway (14th to 17th)

It hosts Greenmarket, a quality farmer's market with vegetable, meat and other stalls. It sprouts up several days a week.
