Why
Windsor Castle
is special
The sprawling Windsor Castle has opulently decorated rooms, a magnificent
chapel, and a remarkable doll house.

Windsor Castle
overview

William
the Conqueror built the original castle nearly 1000 years ago. Enlargements and
improvements were made through the centuries. Today, it is the world's largest
working castle.

Windsor
Castle is one of the Monarch's three official residences (the other being
Buckingham Palace in London and Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, Scotland).

In
1992 a fire devastated a large area of the castle. Everything has since been
restored.

Top 4 highlights
of Windsor Castle

St.
George's Chapel - It has an ornate interior. Ten sovereigns are interned
here, including Henry VIII.

State
Apartments - Used for state and royal functions. The rooms are lavishly
furnished. Priceless paintings by masters like da Vinci and Rembrandt adorn the
walls.

Semi-State
Rooms - These are also lavishly decorated spaces hung with art masterpieces.
They are open to the public only from October to March.

Queen
Mary's Doll House - It will impress even those who hate doll houses. This
"royal toy" is large scaled, skillfully constructed, and populated with
marvelous miniatures.
