Why
Sydney Harbour
is special

Sydney in Australia has one of the world's most stimulating harbors. Its tourism treasures
include the celebrated Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Tips & insights on
Sydney Harbour
in Australia

Sydney
Harbour has two of Australia's top icons.

One
is the Sydney Opera House, Hillman Wonders silver medalist. Click the button
below to read my web page on that Australia wonder.

The
other renowned and oft-photographed icon is the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It was
built in 1932 and has picked up several nicknames, including "the coat hanger"
(which the structure vaguely resembles).

You
can take a guided tour to the very top of the bridge. You walk up the giant arch
on its catwalk and are hooked to a safety line in case you slip. You also need
to climb ladders and navigate tight passageways. The views and adventure are
thrilling, though the price is quite steep for some pocketbooks.

Another
rewarding aspect of Sydney Harbour is watching its busy nautical activity.
Speedy ferries, tour boats and recreational craft etch the gorgeous blue waters
with their trailing white wakes.

Experiencing
the harbor on a boat is essential to fully appreciate its splendor. Hop on
a sightseeing cruise boat or take a ferry.

Sydney
Harbour extends a great distance inland. The part where the city lies is about 8
kilometers (5 miles) from the open sea.
