It's the world's most famous luxury ski resort. Gstaad attracts celebrities, royalty, business tycoons, government leaders, and status-seekers hoping to mingle with them.
Nearby are over 300 kilometers (nearly 200 miles) of ski, snowboard, and cross-country trails and slopes.
Numerous scenic alpine trails serve nature-loving hikers.
Gstaad village is relatively small and is nestled at the intersection of four seductive alpine valleys.
The well-heeled patronize the ritzy Grand Hotel Park and Grand Palace Hotel. Or they rent a posh chalet.
Some restaurants are critically praised by gourmet enthusiasts.
The rich and famous party here. The style is lively but with a touch of class.
Chic shops line the short, traffic-free street nicknamed the Promenade.
Those with private jets land 3 kilometers (2 miles) from Gstaad. For the rest of us, Geneva is only about 2 hours away by road or rail.
Best is in winter, from mid-December to mid-April. Second best is summer, from mid-June through September. Least desirable is mid-April to mid-June.
