Compact but steep

This archaeological site for visitors is relatively compact, making it untiring to explore. However, if you plan to climb a monument, remember that Mayan steps are very steep and short-treaded.

Clothing

Wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat - and bring sun screen and insect repellent. It can be hot in Uxmal, so don light cotton clothes.

Accommodations

Staying over in one of the local hotels makes sense. You will be able to see the evening light show. And, you can be at the gate when Uxmal opens at 8 a.m., an hour or two before the tour busses arrive.

Nearest major city

Uxmal is only 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Merida, making it a popular daytrip from that city.
