Grenada
tips & insights

Mispronunciation

Some travelers pronounce - and sometimes even spell - the name Grenada like the Spanish city Granada (grah-nah'-dah). The correct pronunciation for Grenada is gruh-nay'-dah.

Three islands

The Grenada nation comprises three main islands: Grenada, Carriacou, and Petit Martinique. The first is by far the largest. It's also the most populated and touristed. It will be the one I'll be referring to when I use the name "Grenada" below.

Grand Etang National Park

This scenic lush-tropical rainforest sprawls over Grenada's interior. Grand Etang has an abundance of wildlife and many trails for exploring. You'll discover waterfalls and a crater lake.

Beaches

There are several dozen. The most famous is the long, white-sand Grand Anse. It lies just south of St George, the capital.

Resorts

Most are concentrated in the St George area. Many line Grand Anse beach.
