Geography

Trinidad is just 11 kilometers (7 miles) from the South American mainland roughly 10,000 years ago.

Geology

Both Trinidad and Tobago were part of South America before breaking away. So technically, they are South American, not Caribbean islands.

Cultural diversity

The island of Trinidad is a melting pot. Residents trace their ancestry to Africa, Europe, India, China, and Latin America. The newcomers brought with them their cultures, faiths, languages, and cuisines that are still entrenched today.

Cruise ships

The capital city Port-of-Spain is the southernmost port of call on the Caribbean cruise circuit.
